Last week Anat, her parents, myself, and thousands of other Israelis hit the dead sea for the Ein-Gedi half marathon.
As this post is about a week late I will make it very short.
On Friday Anat and I rode from the Dead Sea, at -500 meters under sea level, up the mountains to Arad, at +500 meters above sea level. To help you understand we rode for 1.5 hours and climbed 1000 meters. Then headed south and down the mountain to return back after a 4 hour 100km ride.
The very next day we woke up early and headed for our long run training or a half marathon race for others. Its great to participate in a race when you are actually there just for training. Well sort of…. As the race started I decided to set a new PR, and also not to let down Anat (see her post “Running technique for dummies”). And so I did, 1:49:27 for 21.1km.
The race conditions were tough as the heat was unbearable at 30C. Unfortunately I had to witness a person get heat stroke later to learn that there were 10 that needed to be hospitalized, all tourists. If you are a tourist and are not familiar with desert conditions you should understand that running a half marathon at the lowest place on planet earth, in the desert, no humidity, and rising heat can lead to, sun burn, dehydration, and heat stroke which can result in an ugly death…. So if you are a tourist planning to run in Israel’s famous desert I suggest you open running for dummies and take note on hydration and clothing.
This video has been edited by a PC (not a Mac)…. Sorry for the poor effects
Keep your eye out for the little devil on my right shoulder, the dialogue (if you understand Hebrew), and the guest appearances (Sandra – Anat’s mother, Martin – Anat’s father (aka Spectator), Dubi, Inbal, Doron, and Susan)
Sounds like snowboarding music in the video. It’s so obvious that its made with a PC
